TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iranian Energy Minister Majid Namjou said Saturday the country plans to export power to Lebanon after inauguration of Gotvand dam located in southwestern Khuzestan Province.

He said inauguration of the first unit of upper Gotvand Dam with the capacity of 250 MW, would boost the country's power capacity to over 65,000 MW.

The dam's whole capacity reaches 1000 MW, he said adding, Iran's power export to Iraq has totaled above 1200 MW and, "We hope to transfer 50 MW of this amount to Lebanon with cooperation of Iraq and Syria."

Also Iranian Deputy Energy Minister for Power Affairs Mohammad Behzad said Iran's power export hits 1500 MW, 300 MW of which is transferred to Pakistan, Afghanistan and Turkey and the remaining totals 120 MW is sent to Iraq.

He added Iran's electricity export has risen by 40 percent in 2012 comparing to the last year.

Behzad went on to say that Iran's electricity export in 2012 would hit 10 billion KWH.

He noted Iran plans to send electricity to Syria and Lebanon via Iraq and required coordination has been made.
