Iran's army, guard corps to hold joint military exercise

TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iran plans to hold the first joint drill between the army and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in 2012, said the Iranian army's ground force commander Brigadier General Ahmad Pourdastan Wednesday, adding the country would hold 8 military maneuvers in different parts of the country.

He added the country plans to unveil vertical wind tunnel for simulation of Skydiving free fall.

According to Pourdastan, this is an unprecedented and unique project. It is also unique among Middle Eastern countries.

The tunnel was built indigenously and is simulator of Skydiving free fall. The project is ready to be revealed, but the enclosure would be prepared to be run late May or June.

He also added the country plans to unveil Zolfaqar tank fire control system and laser rangefinder, adding Zolfaghar can compete with the foreign models.

Moving to abilities of Iranian experts in building weapons, he said, "The Iranian experts have built "Ember" weapon with 6 pipes for the first time in the country and they were handed to the units. Iran would complete caliber 50 cell weapons by 2012.

Brigadier General Pourdastan added that the country is in the idealistic position to defend itself.
