TEHRAN (ISNA)- Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari lauded Iranian Navy's strong and vigilant presence in high seas, and said the forces are present in the triangle of straits of Malacca, Bab-el-Mandeb and the Strait of Hormuz.
"The golden triangle of Malaca, Bab-el-Mandeb and the Strait of Hormuz is an important triangle in which the Iranian Navy has been deployed following the Supreme Leader's recommendation. As I said 93 percent of Iran's experts and imports are conducted via this path," Sayyari said.
He also said 25 flotilla of warship of the Iranian Navy have so far moved through 25,000 km of high seas, adding that the program is a strategic program by Iranian Navy.
Iran's naval power has even been acknowledged even by the foes. In a Sep. 11, 2008 report, the Washington Institute for the Near East Policy said that in the two decades since the Iraqi imposed war on Iran, the Islamic Republic has excelled in naval capabilities and is able to wage unique asymmetric warfare against larger naval forces.
According to the report, Iran's Navy has been transformed into a highly motivated, well-equipped, and well-financed force and is effectively in control of the world's oil lifeline, the Strait of Hormuz.
