Iran's rescue robot wins title in RoboCup int'l competitions

TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iranian Mechatronics Research Laboratory (MRL) of Islamic Azad University of Qazvin performed well in Robo Cup Rescue Real Robot League competition. The Head of Iranian National Committee of Robo Cup Morteza Mousa-Khani said the Iranian team managed to come first in the main section of the competitions and defeat the Thai team sponsored by large industrial companies and used to come first in the competitions every year. Also Yazd Robotic Association (YRA) from Islamic Azad University of Yazd, a central Iranian city, came third in the competitions. In removal objects section, Iran's MRL won the title with the YRA came second. The two teams were followed by a Mexican team. Also MRL and YRA teams respectively came second and third in Robo Cup real rescuer league motion ability after a Thai team. The purpose of the RoboCup Rescue Simulation league is twofold. First, it aims to develop simulators that form the infrastructure of the simulation system and emulate realistic phenomena predominant in disasters. Second, it aims to develop intelligent agents and robots that are given the capabilities of the main actors in a disaster response scenario. Robotic footballers from have taken part in the Robo Cup in Mexico City.
