Iran's Farhadi invited to Beijing int'l fest

TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iranian director Asghar Farhadi was invited to attend the 2nd edition of Beijing International Film Festival.

He will be accompanied by the group engaged in making "Nader and Simin: A Separation", which won 2012 Academy Awards for Foreign Languages Film.

In a meeting between Chinese ambassador to Iran Yu Hongyang and Iranian Minister of Culture Mohammad Hosseini, the ambassador offered invitation to Farhadi and other elements of the film to join the Chinese cultural event.

"The second edition of the festival is to be held this year and we want to hold the event annually, so we want to invite Asghar Farhadi and other elements of "Nader and Simin: A Separation" to take part in the festival," the Chinese ambassador said.

Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi’s Academy Award-winning film is scheduled to be screened during the festival set to be held from April 23 to 28, 2012.

Farhadi's internationally-acclaimed Iranian movie Nader and Simin: A Separation won the Oscar for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 84th Academy Awards.

The drama also turned heads winning The Best Foreign Film Award of the 27th annual Independent Spirit Awards during a ceremony held one day before the 84th Academy Awards.

Farhadi’s A Separation also grabbed the Best Foreign Film Award of the 2012 César Awards on February 24, in Paris.

The movie received Best Picture, Best Film Not in the English Language, Best Ensemble and Best Original Screenplay awards of the 9th International Cinephile Society (ICS).

Farhadi's prize-magnet drama has hit the Canadian and the Brazilian cinemas since January 20, 2012.

The film won the award for the Best Foreign Language film at the 2012 edition of Golden Globes. It also received the 2012 Turkish Film Critics Association Award (SIYAD) in the same category.

The 2011 New York Film Critics Circle granted its Best Foreign Film award to A Separation.

The movie also received three top awards of the Best Foreign Language Film, Best Supporting Actress and the Best Screenwriter of the 2012 London Critics' Circle Awards (LCCA).
