TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in Yekaterinburg, Russia to attend Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
Ahmadinejad officially invited by Russian counterpart Dmitri Medvedev is to make a speech at SCO general meeting and visit some member states of the organization.
The two-day summit was started on June 15.
Shanghai treaty is a regional treaty which seeks economic and security cooperation, Ahmadinejad said at the airport before leaving for Russia.
Relations between Iran and the SCO member states are growing, he said adding Iran, China and Russia are three major economic and political poles in the world which play an influential role in current international issues.
The organization was established in 2001 by Russia and China. It also comprises of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Iran joined the group in 2005 as an observer.
